This course examines the schooling experience of multilinguals in US K-12 schools, past and present. Students explore dynamic academic, cultural, and sociopolitical factors that influence language development. Using these factors, and knowledge of legislation and policy, they learn to plan for supportive environments. Activities build students’ knowledge about language, providing a foundation of linguistics on which to build. Course prepares teacher candidates for engaging in advocacy for positive educational spaces for multilingual youth. Cross-listed NO
