COR 230J 2 - ITALY IN MADISON: ARTS AND CULTURE IN GLOBAL CONTEXT Minimum Credit(s) Awarded: 3 Maximum Credit(s) Awarded: 3
This seminar combines an integrative introduction to the arts with active inquiry into the role that the arts play in shaping culture and society, past and present. Our study culminates in travel to Italy, where we will spend the first week visiting the artistic treasures of Rome, legendary caput mundi (“capital of the world”). The second portion of our trip is devoted to participating in contemporary life in the small university town and UNESCO World Heritage site of Urbino. The knowledge and experience students gain will give them a wider perspective on, as well as greater insight into, the needs and opportunities of the world—and how they might fruitfully engage with both.
No online registration. Students must apply and be accepted into the course in order to be approved for registration. Students must successfully complete both COR 230J and COR 231J in order to receive the COR 2 requirement for this sequence.
Edgewood COR courses provide an integrative framework for students to understand themselves, become aware of the needs of the world, and develop the gifts they have been given to create a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world. Cross-listed GS 340
