BUS 965  - Quality & Innov Frameworks

Students will develop an understanding of innovation and quality as key strategic options for organizations in the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors and analyze the role of strategic leadership in driving innovation and quality across different sectors, with a focus on leadership theories and models that influence organizational culture and change. Students will discuss how companies are using data science and analytics to encourage innovation and quality. They will identify an innovative idea relevant to the products, services, processes or strategies of their employer / industry, and learn to use planning and implementation tools such as the Business Model in the context of their innovative idea. The course includes the following topics: Baldrige Excellence Framework, disruptive and non-disruptive innovation, design thinking concepts, implementation of innovations and success measurement, and application of the Business Model Canvas for innovation.  The course will also focus on evaluation of quality management theories, including Total Quality Management (TQM) and Six Sigma, in the context of modern business challenges and global competition and sustainability and ethical considerations in quality management.
