ANES 800  - Chem & Physics for Nurse Anesthesia

This course is an introduction to the basic chemical and scientific aspects of anesthesia. The topics covered in this course are necessary to apply and master nurse anesthesia. The student will conquer concepts in general, organic and biochemistry and their importance in anesthesiology. Lectures will cover key topics relating to anesthesiology including states of matter, acids and bases, genomics, radioactivity and chemical structures of anesthetic drugs and inhalational agents.  The nurse anesthesia student will also learn and apply physical concepts related to anesthesiology. Topics covered in this course will be utilized daily in the clinical setting. The student will master diffusion of gases, common gas law equations, nonpharmacologic math equations, anesthesia delivery systems, physiological effects of inhalational agents and electrical and fire safety in the operating room.
