ANES 806 - Principles of Nurse Anesthesia II Minimum Credit(s) Awarded: 3 Maximum Credit(s) Awarded: 3
This course is to be taken after the successful completion of ANES 802. The nurse anesthesia student will further explore concepts taught in Principles I along with anesthetic considerations for special patient populations including Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Geriatrics and Bariatrics. The anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, anesthesia techniques/considerations, and pharmacologic adaptations (uterotonics/tocolytics) of these special populations will be covered in this course. Students will be required to adapt anesthetic care plans to encompass the anatomic and physiologic changes, comorbidities, and lab and fluid management of the specific patient populations. Students will become proficient with OB, pediatric, geriatric and bariatric specific anesthesia skills through lab and simulation to prepare for providing evidence based, individualized anesthetic care in clinical practicum.
