ANES 818 - Practicum IV Minimum Credit(s) Awarded: 4 Maximum Credit(s) Awarded: 4
The nurse anesthesia student will be assigned to a clinical setting four days per week. Each nurse anesthesia student will be clinically guided and educated by one certified registered nurse anesthetist or physician anesthesiologist. This course is designed to allow the student registered nurse anesthetist to further incorporate previous lectures and clinical experience to provide anesthesia to the entire spectrum of patients at an independent level. Students will provide a pre-operative assessment, develop an appropriate anesthesia care plan, and provide a safe anesthetic with minimal input from their supervising anesthesia provider. Students will be rotated to various clinical sites to ensure each student has reached the required anesthetic cases to gain eligibility for the national certifying examination. Local and national anesthesia conferences and seminars may be required throughout the nurse anesthesia practicum.
