ANES 820  - Practicum V

Minimum Credit(s) Awarded: 4
Maximum Credit(s) Awarded: 4

The nurse anesthesia student will be assigned to a clinical setting four days per week. Each nurse anesthesia student will be clinically guided and educated by one certified registered nurse anesthetist or physician anesthesiologist. The student will prepare a care plan for each case, each day, and will discuss their anesthetic plan with the CRNA they are paired with for that specific day. This practicum is near the end of the anesthesia curriculum and will expose the student to more difficult cases while fostering independence and preparing the student for clinical practice after passing the NCE. The nurse anesthesia student must prepare and plan their anesthetic prior to the case and provide care in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative settings. Students will be rotated to various clinical sites to ensure each student has reached the required anesthetic cases to gain eligibility for the national certifying examination. Local and national anesthesia conferences and seminars may be required throughout the nurse anesthesia practicum.
