HCA 630  - Healthcare Information Systems

This course explores the role of health information systems (HIS) in enhancing healthcare delivery, operational efficiency, and informed strategic decision-making. Students will examine key HIS, including electronic health records (EHRs), health information exchanges (HIEs), artificial intelligence, and enterprise data warehouses, as well as regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and interoperability standards. The course covers fundamental concepts in healthcare information technology governance, data structures, privacy frameworks, and strategic planning. Through case studies and hands-on applications, students will develop the skills necessary to effectively manage and optimize health information systems, ensuring organizational success and regulatory compliance.
