This course examines the development, implementation, and impact of health policy at the local, state, and federal levels with emphasis on strategic advocacy and community engagement. Students will explore the policymaking process, key healthcare legislation, and the role of government agencies in shaping healthcare systems. Topics include healthcare reform, social determinants of health, health equity, population health initiatives, and the intersection of policy and finance. The course emphasizes advocacy strategies, stakeholder engagement, and the role of healthcare leaders in influencing policy decisions that advance organizational mission and community health outcomes. Through case studies, policy analysis, and strategic planning exercises, students will develop competencies needed to advocate for effective and equitable healthcare policies while building partnerships that address community health needs.
