Edgewood College is the first college in Wisconsin to offer inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While being guided through a person-centered approach, these students immerse themselves into undergraduate courses, practicums, internships, on-campus housing and student life. Students complete non-degree, certificate, and degree programs. Students access the same courses as undergraduate students while being supported by the Cutting Edge Academic Course Coaching Model. Cutting Edge students actively participate in all aspects of student life with the goal of independent living and employment upon completion of their program.

In addition to having access to Edgewood College undergraduate degree programs, the Cutting Edge program offers two undergraduate institutional certificates: Para-Professional Educator (48 credits) and 21st Century Skills for Employment Certificate (14 credits), and a non-degree certificate of completion through the School of Education.

Cutting Edge Peer Mentors

Peer mentor relationships are the key to Cutting Edge student’s success at Edgewood College. The Cutting Edge program has 50-60 students every semester who serve as Social Peer Mentors. These mentors are volunteers, drawn from areas of study across campus. The Social Peer Mentors facilitate personal connections and help students fit into the college. Only through this experience can undergraduates, graduate students and Cutting Edge students learn the value of inclusion.
