Multiple concentrations of CIS and CIS/BUS majors are designed to provide students with solid grounding in computer information systems as well as business, and prepare students for direct entry into the workforce as computer information systems professionals in the roles of data analysts, software engineers, cyber security and network administrators, web and mobile developers, agile information systems engineers and IT project managers, or to give them strong foundation for further graduate study in computer science.
The department identifies the following goals:
- Be guided by the social, professional, legal and ethical as well as cultural issues involved in the use of computing technology, teach students how to use it, creatively, and intelligently
- Teach cyber security, network design and administration, while addressing the ethical implications of privacy and security of personal and organizational information
- Teach computer science as a multifaceted, humanistic discipline of problem solving.
- Analyze complex problems and apply principles of computer science to identify paths to solutions
- Apply theory of Computer Science and Software Development fundamentals to produce computing based solutions
- Teach foundations of Agile System Development methodology to communicate effectively within the teams and outside
- Participate in interdisciplinary educational opportunities
