There is a demand for highly trained and experienced leaders in the region’s health-care organizations - health systems, insurance companies, government programs and other ancillary professions. This program is designed for aspiring managers and leaders from the large array of health delivery organizations (hospitals, medical and dental clinics, pharmacies, etc.), financing organizations (insurers, government payers) and other professionals (insurance agents, consultants, accountants and attorneys).

Program Highlights

  • Program requirements are based on the CAHME (Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education) competency criteria.
  • Each course is taught in an eight week intensive online format with most students completing four to five courses per year.
  • Courses are taught by current Business School faculty and adjunct instructors drawn from the regional healthcare industry.

Coursework

The program consists of 42 credits: six core courses, six health-care administration focused courses, a capstone and one elective are required for the degree. Some courses have prerequisites and students should not register for courses until they have completed the necessary prerequisites. All courses are three credits unless otherwise indicated.

Program Prerequisites

A high quality educational experience is a driving force of the MBA-HCA program. All courses are taught under the assumption that students have the necessary background and preparation. General knowledge preparation includes a minimum of college algebra and basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet searches. Business knowledge preparation includes an understanding of and demonstrated competency in financial accounting, quantitative analysis, business law, macroeconomics and microeconomics. Competency can be demonstrated in multiple ways, including completion of undergraduate or foundation courses or CLEP examinations. The program advisor will help prospective students explore these options.
