The psychology major seeks to assist students in developing a critical knowledge of psychology as a science and as a means to promote human welfare. These goals reflect the College’s mission and identity statements, which promote educating students for meaningful professional lives of service and a lifelong search for truth.
The Clinical Counseling concentration is for students who want to pursue advanced training and possible career opportunities in clinical and counseling professions.
Policies
PSY 285 , PSY 385 and PSY 485 (Topics in Psychology) may fulfill a requirement for one of the areas above if the topic falls within the subject matter for that area. This will be determined and announced by the Psychology Department.
For graduation, students must have a 2.5 average in all psychology major requirements. A course in which a student receives a grade below a “CD” will not be counted toward the major or minor. If a student repeats a course, the better grade will be counted toward the GPA for purposes of admission to the major, graduation and inclusion in the minor. Transfer course grades will be counted toward the GPA for purposes of admission to the major.
