Policies
- It is strongly recommended that history majors who plan to attend graduate school take a foreign language. Students should consult with their academic advisor for information.
- Both undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students must earn at least 12 credits in History at Edgewood College.

AP credit policy: AP exams credit may be accepted to fulfill students’ major requirements in the field of electives, up to two courses.

Majors must earn 20 credits at the 200-level or above in History. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required in History courses taken toward the major.
- Students should consult with their academic advisor to learn the details about how students can satisfy their COR 3 requirement.

Major Requirements
A minimum of 35 credits in History are required as follows: One course in European History
One course in United States History
One course in East Asian History
One Senior Seminar OR Senior Project
Electives (11-12 credits)
Elective Courses to complete the 35-36 credit total. To be chosen in consultation with and to be confirmed with their academic advisor. At least one of the electives must be a course regarding the historical development of a subject taught by another program. A maximum number of the courses offered by other programs a student can take is two. History Research Methods Requirement
Among the 35-36 credit total, one 4-credit course, 200 level or above, must contain the course work regarding Historiography and Research Methods; to be chosen in consultation with students’ academic advisor.
For students interested in pursuing a teaching license:
For students majoring in history intending to pursue an initial educator license to teach middle/high school Social Studies, it is recommended candidates complete:
- 16 additional credits from at least three of the following social science subjects: economics, political science/international relations, sociology/anthropology, geography, and psychology.
- 6 additional graduate-level credits comprised of the following courses: EDU 600 (3 cr), EDU 690 (3 cr) in the Accelerated Secondary Education Program (ASP) in the spring semester of senior year.
Upon graduation, students will matriculate into the Accelerated Secondary Education Program to complete the professional education core sequence for secondary education licenses. In year 5, students will complete an additional 16 credits with an option to earn a Master’s of Arts degree in Education after completing 8 additional graduate credits (*Note* This is a 30-credit MA + License Program).
