The Bachelor of Arts in English is offered as both a general program and with a concentration in Creative Writing. All students must meet the requirements of the English Major listed below, but electives within the major may go toward the Creative Writing concentration or a deeper study of English literature. 

All students in English are encouraged to participate in advanced study options including in-depth student research, internships, teaching assistantships, and/or work on the student literary magazine.

Courses Required for the English Major


The English major requires 40 credits, to include two courses at the 200-level (8 credits) and four courses at the  300- or 400-level (16 credits). Students must also take a COR 3 course in English and additional English courses to reach a total of 40 credit-hours.  Among these electives, students must take one course from pre-1865 literature (one asterisk) and one global and/or multicultural literature course (two asterisks).
