English as a Second Language Licensing

The English as a Second Language Licensing sequence prepares students for the Wisconsin DPI English as a Second Language (ESL) license.  The ESL (395/1395) license allows the license holder to teach the English language to English Language Learners while supporting core academic subject instruction provided by the classroom teacher at the grade or developmental level specified on the license.  The program entails coursework, a portfolio, a semester of ESL student teaching, and clinical evaluations aligned to the standards.

The ESL license is an add-on license that can be added on to an initial license. Program prerequisite: a current WDPI license at one of the following levels: Initial Educator, Professional Educator, Masters Educator within one of the following fields; EC-MC, MC-EA regular education, EA-A in a specific content area, or EC-A Foreign Language (for ESL add-on only)
