This is the entry-level Respiratory Care Program. Students with an earned associate’s degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program should see the Health Science, Respiratory Care Degree Advancement Concentration, RRT to BS .
Prerequisites for Admission
- Students are required to shadow a respiratory therapist 4-8 hours prior to application to the respiratory therapy program. Please talk to your major advisor to request a shadowing experience through one of our partnering healthcare facilities.
- Cumulative grade point average of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale in previous academic work
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR & AED Training for Healthcare Professionals certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) training center is required prior to application to the Respiratory Care program and must be active during the clinical training.
Policies for the Respiratory Care Program
- An overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale for all pre-professional coursework is required. A GPA higher than the minimum is preferred and increases a student’s chances of acceptance to clinical training. In addition, a minimum of “C” grade must be earned in each prerequisite course.
- Students must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA for all coursework within the RCP concentration (RCP prefix courses).
- Students will also be required to complete a caregiver background check, as required by WI state law.
