The Computer Information Systems/Business major combines the core foundational knowledge and skills necessary to compete and be productive in the field of Computing and/or Information Technology with a unique focus on the context of Business organizations and management of computing technology. Integrated within the liberal arts tradition, our practical curriculum guides your journey to a career in the application of business concepts and computing technology through hands-on activities, interactive applications and real-life projects that sharpen your abilities to problem solve and work in teams. Combining both computer and business courses, the degree integrates community outreach and senior capstone experiences that showcase your skills for future employers. A Computer Information Systems/Business degree can be combined with additional concentrations, such as Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.

Computer Information Systems Core Requirements
The Computer Information Systems (CIS) major is structured to provide you with the theoretical framework upon which to build your knowledge and skills necessary to compete and be productive in IT world. Integrated within liberal arts tradition, our practical curriculum guides your journey to a career in the Computing and/or Information Technology field through hands-on activities, interactive applications and real-life projects that sharpen your abilities to problem solve and work in teams. It incorporates community outreach and senior capstone experiences that showcase your skills for future employers. In addition, CIS degree includes concentrations which gives you extra knowledge in an emerging field, such as Cyber-Security, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, or others.
Core courses for the major
Students without previous programming experience must take CS 170 ; otherwise consent of the instructor will be needed to take CS 176 and CS 179 .
Any course in which a student receives a grade below “CD” will not be accepted to the major.
Required Supporting Courses
Field Experience Requirement
All students are required to complete at least one internship or an engaged learning experience. Consult your advisor for details on how to complete this requirement. The internship class may be taken for 1-3 credits following the minimum 50 hours/credit model.
Concentration Recommendation
At least one CIS concentration, except the Business Concentration, is also highly recommended.
